The Obama administration should not overlook credit unions as part of the solution to the country’s credit and job woes, Credit Union National Association President/CEO Dan Mica reiterated after the president’s State of the Union Address Wednesday night.
Intermittent remittance services and operating from open-air offices have been added to the challenges faced by credit unions, members and staff while Haiti tries to recover from the Jan. 12 earthquake that leveled its capital city.
As reported earlier, the Federal Reserve Board surprised everyone when it included in the official staff commentary accompanying its final Regulation Z rules a new prohibition that will not allow a credit union to offer a variable rate card account with a floor that prevents the rate from decreasing consistent with reductions in the independent index.
Credit unions have teamed up with the National Foundation for Credit Counseling, which has enhanced its National Locator Line to support new requirements, effective Feb. 22, of the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009.
The deadline to file taxes this year without penalty is April 15, and credit unions nationwide are ready to help their members with free tax preparation programs.
Credit unions and other organizations in the movement have surpassed the half-million-dollar mark in their fund-raising for the Haiti Disaster Relief Fund for credit unions, staff and members affected by the Jan. 12 earthquake.
Today’s National Credit Union Administration open board meeting, the first of the new year, is expected to be relatively short and sweet with just a UDAP action and insurance fund report on the agenda.

Websense Security Labs™ ThreatSeeker™ Network has discovered that the home page of the Oklahoma Tax Commission Web site has been compromised with malicious script code. The heavily obfuscated code has been injected at the bottom of the page.

After the page is loaded, the browser executes the injected script in the background.

The injected script code goes through a series of deobfuscation techniques that ultimately take the victim computer to an attack Web site without the victim’s consent or knowledge.
At the time of this posting, the attack Web site is down, but it could come back up at anytime to carry out attacks against visitors to the Oklahoma Tax Commission home page.
