5 Tech Security Tips Everyone Should Know

Life Hacker recently posted a list of the Top 10 Tech Security Basics that Everyone Should Know. Listed below are the top 5:

1.  Guard yourself against social engineering attacks:  This includes: phishing scams, suspicious links sent by text or email, and other attacks like these.

2.  Secure your phone: Give your phone some security!  Mobile phones usually have built-in security options to unlock your phone such as passcodes, fingerprint and facial recognition, patterns and more.

3.  Use a Password Manager: By now you know that it is important to use different passwords for different websites and services.  However, sometimes it is hard to remember all of those different passwords.  Using a password manager helps you keep track of your passwords for each website.

4.  Anti-Virus Software is a Must:  Install the best anti-virus software you can find and set it on a schedule to update your machine regularly.  Anti-virus software is helpful in guarding your machine against vicious malware.  A good anti-virus program is both proactive and reactive.  It is proactive as it takes the steps to safeguard your machine and reactive because it quarantines threats as soon as it finds them.

5.  Secure Your Wireless Router:  Put your router in lockdown.  Make sure you have a secure wifi password and configure your other security settings for maximum protection.
