It’s that time of year again, where the internet is full of holiday shoppers ordering the next big item. In these days especially, online shoppers need to be careful when making purchases to reduce the risk of being scammed.
A few simple tricks can keep your risk to a minimum:
Use a strong password
A secure password can ensure online hackers don’t gain access to your secure information like your bank account, address, and contact information. Try using a lengthy password that has a combination of numbers, letters, and symbols, as well as use of capitalization.
Use safe sites!
Always ensure that the website you are purchasing your next item from is secure to use. Ensure that you are on the correct website by double checking the URL and finding the SSL certificate saying the website is secure. Don’t shop at any online store that is not secured.
Don’t overshare
Be sure that you are providing only necessary personal information when making online purchases. Information such as address and credit card information will obviously need to be shared, but no website should be asking for your social security number!
With simple tricks we can avoid getting caught in the trap of an online scammer. Be safe!
